Liverpool Comedy Festival 2014

Liverpool has a worldwide reputation for its music, football and comedy. Comedy is an integral part of the city’s cultural heritage and identity, and the Liverpool Comedy Festival is an important vehicle for the city to continue to celebrate Liverpool’s rich comedy heritage, while nurturing a new breed of comedians, and playing host to national and international comedy performers.

The Festival runs from the 23rd September to the 5 October, and this year features a fantastic selection of acts from Bridget Christie to Laurence Clark to James Acaster.

Gein's Family Giftshop - Volume 1

at the 81 Renshaw Street, Liverpool

8pm, 26th September

Fosters Edinburgh Newcomer Comedy Award Nominees Gein's Family Gift Shop will be performing at the Liverpool Comedy Festival on the 26th September, bringing audiences on a one-hour journey through "dark, absurd and fast-paced" sketches that marry "the tragic with the riotous". The Comedy Sketch group will be performing their debut Edinburgh Festival fringe show, Volume 1, which achieved five ★★★★★ and five ★★★★ reviews.

"The Trio work harder and tighter than James Brown, with the kind of sensibility that would unsettle even the darkest League of Gentlemen fan. Like many of the new breed, they constantly slip in and out of sketches while explaining themselves to the audience, magicians pretending to reveal their skills but leaving you more baffled than before. It’s a simple, stripped-down show – no props, no costumes – and the theme is gothic, with riffs taken from urban legends and Slender Man style memes. They fit the tiny space perfectly, so go before they grow. Even if you hate them, you will have seem something genuinely new" – The Times

The double header, featuring Gein's Family Gift Shop and the fantastic Kiri Pritchard-McLean will be performing at 81 Renshaw. To book tickets, call 0870 787 1866 or visit the website.

" I was rewarded with an hour of tense, inventive sketch comedy and enough psychosexual shenanighans to last an entire festival. … an experimental format that is by turns bold, intelligent and refreshingly prop free. Like the League Of Gentlemen before them, they also have a silent, fourth member. Memorably unsettling." – Mail on Sunday
