Brief Description

Dress like a butterfly and sting like a scorpion!” as Mohammed Ali never said about Jonathan Mayor – the forgotten Bollywood love-child of Hinge and Bracket, Kenneth Williams and Eddie Izzard.

Biography

No stranger to the stage, having appeared in amateur and semi-pro theatre ever since he was old enough to wear a pair of slingbacks, Jonathan Mayor stormed onto the stand up scene in 2002, a whirlwind of glitter, acerbic barbs and flamboyant fun. Having taken part in So You Think Your Funny at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and reaching the final of City Life North West Comedian of the Year 2002, promoters quickly began clamouring to book Jonathan at many of the UK’s most prestigious comedy nights.

“Imagine a Christmas tree has just exploded over the campest Bollywood star you know.” – John Locke, The Comedy Store

As a headline act, Jonathan sets the stage alight with his razor sharp audience banter and stunning charisma. But don’t be fooled by the glitter and glamour, underneath lies an intelligent line of socio-political humour, from a unique and fascinating perspective, He will reduce any audience to hysterics whether they are erudite, Radio 4 listeners or the drunkest Friday night crowd.

He is also a highly competent MC capable of settling even the rowdiest crowds with savage wit and a high-octane stage presence. A flamboyant and charismatic performer, when Jonathan arrives, its Showtime, engaging the audience both on and off-stage. He is one of the few acts who will not only perform when the stage lights are on, but also wander among the crowd, chatting and charming – truly “hosting” the night. These qualities have ensured that Jonathan is, in either role, one of the UK’s most popular choices with audiences and promoters alike. He also receives requests for appearances at events that vary wildly in nature, such as burlesque shows, cabaret nights, Pride Events, biker festivals, corporate occasions, street theatre, balls, weddings, civil partnerships, birthday parties and poetry nights.

Jonathan is so much more than a stand-up comedian, he is an exciting, enticing, all consuming experience in himself.
